The surf culture in Lombok is laid-back and friendly, with a strong focus on respect for the ocean and the local community. Many of the surf spots in Lombok are located in or near small villages, and surfers are expected to be respectful of the local culture and customs.

Desert Point

Senggigi

  • Senggigi is one of the more well-known surf spots in Lombok, offering a variety of breaks suitable for all levels of surfers. The beach is long and sandy, with a backdrop of lush green hills and mountains, making it a picturesque spot to surf.

  • The best conditions for surf at Senggigi are during the dry season (May-September) when the winds are generally offshore and the swells are consistent. The best waves are found at the northern end of the beach and around the nearby headland. The swell size varies between 2-6ft and can produce both left and right-hand waves.

The village is surrounded by lush green hills and has a relaxed atmosphere. The surf breaks are accessed by boat and are spread out around the bay. The breaks are called Outside, Inside, DonDon Widow Maker or Outside Lefts and Kids Point.

  • The surf in Gerupuk is most consistent from April to October, when the southwest swells arrive. The best surf is generally found at high tide, and it's best to avoid surfing here during the rainy season, as the water can become murky.

It's a popular spot among locals and visitors alike, but still relatively uncrowded compared to other popular surf destinations in the area.The road that takes you from the main road to the break is gnarly as hell so be sure your scooter handling skills are up to scratch before venturing here. The drive is worth it though. There are sometimes local photographers but not always and the warung there offers all your favourite indonesian snacks and drinks

The best conditions occur when there is a south to southwest swell direction with a light to moderate offshore wind from the east. The wave is more forgiving during mid to high tide and can be quite hollow during low tide.

Local Tips: There are several surf camps and surf schools located in Ekas, offering surf lessons and board rentals for those who need them. There are also a few warungs (local cafes) where you can grab a bite to eat and a cold drink after your surf session. It's always a good idea to check the surf conditions with the locals before heading out, as they know the spot best and can give you valuable information about the tides and currents.
