Luck has nothing to do with it
Ever since I started travelling, I haven't really stopped. Sure enough I have lived in some places long enough to make it feel like home, but my heart and my head is always on the go. And very often I get people telling me and reminding me how lucky I am to see the world. And I don’t disagree with them, because it truly is a wonder to be able to live a life like this. But luck has nothing to do with this. And it pisses me off that people take away the credit of everything I have sacrificed, of all the time I spent working to save money, all the things I didn't buy, and give it to luck. Exploring the world is what I wish everyone would be doing. And the pros outweigh the cons by a lot. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a side of this nomad lifestyle that isn't hard, or does not feel lonely at times. Being away from home makes you grow as a person, but other people in your life also grow into their own people, grow older and grow away from you. If luck had anything to do with it, it’d be lucky to travel the world, with all my loved ones with me. But reality isn't that sweet. Reality is that you miss birthdays. You miss holidays, you miss your sibling’s graduation and you cry on your mom’s shoulder over facetime, amongst plenty of other things. Travelling is such an eye opening experience, and being away from home is part of this experience. You sometimes realise how much you need that to grow and evolve into your own person. Some people get out there and realise that living out of a suitcase isn't meant for them, and they wish they were lucky enough to love being sweaty living in a van, but luck wasn’t on their side.
I consider myself lucky in so many different ways. I am lucky to be the type of person I am, easy going, relaxed and laid back. Because if I wasn't like that I probably wouldn't live this beautiful life of mine. For me, luck only depends on how you see the world. Once you consider yourself a lucky person, you will appreciate more things and grudge less over silly things. Once you consider yourself lucky, you witness some amazing moments, you meet like minded people and you share beautiful experiences, but it all comes from your mindset. Luck has nothing to do with travelling, because everyone can buy a plane ticket and go. Luck has to do with the fact that you are shaped in a way that encourages you to make bold moves and to go out there. If luck was the only thing allowing me to live this life, travel companies wouldn't be so profitable.
